Pļavnieki

Pļavnieki

Pļavnieki is one of the newest neighborhoods of Riga, located in the eastern part of the city. The area of present-day Pļavnieki emerged from the depths of the Baltic Ice Lake approximately 9,000 years ago during the time of the Yoldia Sea. Until this area was incorporated into the territory of Riga in 1974 and later developed during the Soviet period, the land consisted mainly of agricultural fields — essentially meadows — which is also the origin of the name Pļavnieki.
